Excellent article, Pedro! I am glad to see you quoting from the work of Werner Baer, one of the best scholars of Brazil's industrial policy and ISI, who was my mentor and master's thesis advisor at the University of Illinois, and Edmund Amann, a friend and colleague at Johns Hopkins SAIS Europe.
Thanks Alessandro! I wasn't too familiar with Baer's work before writing this, but I was impressed with the lucidity and authoritative quality of his analysis when I had a chance to read it, it's clear he mastered this topic extremely well and a lot of what I wrote above was informed by his work. Glad you had him as a advisor and Amann too. And thanks for the encouraging words too.
I felt that there's at least some worth in comparing a deliberate policy like Brazil's with what the Trump is claiming to be attempting now and how it's probably an ill advised idea even if executed "well".
